Wind Ruins Boat Diving Tours In Key Largo again this week sad to say.
So many tourists call our shop and are desperate to get out on a boat during their Florida Keys vacation.
They always say the same thing: “It’s so sunny with a beautiful cool breeze, and we just are frustrated that no Key Largo tour operator will take us out snorkeling to see the Christ of the Abyss. What is going on?”
Our reply to everyone goes into great length and starts by explaining that strong winds blowing causes big seas in the Ocean. These big ocean seas ( waves ) can cause boats to capsize
( flip over ) which sure would be a very bad day for a tourist on vacation.

Then we follow it up with: “we sure would love to be able to take your money, trust us we would, but we just can’t take you out and risk sinking our boat.” Then normally they understand.

What We Did Today

PADI Instructor Mike and Dive Master Tim took our newest OW Diver student Ted over to Jules Undersea Lodge Lagoon for confined + OW 1 and 2 training this morning.
Now that Tim completed his Advanced Open Water, Rescue, EFR, and Dive Master courses with us at Sail Fish Scuba, he is assisting our instructional staff to prepare himself for an IDC course later this year.
We are super proud that nearly all our DM interns follow this same path with us!

Windy Day Back Up Tour Options

When the winds blow and boat tours are not possible, we have come up with a lot of fun back up options for folks visiting the Florida Keys.
First option is to join us for a small group, max 6 guests per tour, Mangrove Jungle kayaking and snorkeling tour. This is 2.5 to 3 hours of guided fun, as the mangrove trees close to shore block all the winds and the water is flat near shore.
Second option is to join our PADI Instructional team for “TRY SCUBA” if you have never done so before.
We offer a fun half day in the Jacobs Aquatic Center pool to learn the basics and then a fun ocean dive at our shore dive location, Jules Undersea Lodge Lagoon.
