This week at Key Largo’s best dive shop a tight-knit family, and we love to add new members (both divers and crew alike!) to our family. This winter season has brought a few new members here with us to dive Key Largo. Sail Fish Scuba is proud to welcome our newest MSDT Instructor Casey Miller!

Casey hails originally from St. Louis, MO and has been a recent transplant to the Florida dive scene. He started his pro career in West Palm Beach just a few hours north of Key Largo. Casey obtained his Open Water Diver Certification in 2012 back in Missouri

Why Florida Keys

It’s been a long (and cold!) journey from the midwest to Mexico to South Florida. But Casey wouldn’t have it any other way. Having explored a variety of diving from wrecks, walls, blue holes, and many reefs Casey says his favorite dives would be on the walls and shelves. The sheer amount of different things you can see is astounding!

What’s the most interesting thing you have seen then?

Casey: “I think one of the most amazing things was when I was diving a wall dive in Mexico. We were gently drifting along and staring out into the deep–the wall just goes on thousands of feet into the deep below–and out of the abyss off in open ocean comes this massive spotted eagle ray. I swear this f*****g thing was a 15 feet wide wingspan! It swam lazily over us on the edge of the wall and continued on its way like it never saw us or cared about us. Nothing has been able to top that since.”

Jen and Chris the owners are super friendly and kind.
They provided the most warm welcome and gave me tons of classes to teach right away. These two owners have a plethora of PADI teaching experience all around the globe, heck they have been teaching scuba longer than I’ve been out of high school.

Casey and Goofing Around

You’ll often find Casey entertaining both guests and crew with his antics and his newly acquired toy: The Bubble Ring Gun! Connect by a hose to his scuba tank, Casey will often whip out his toy to shoot down piles of rock, sneak up on other dive crew, and fill the water with bubble rings for divers and snorkelers to play with. The fish seem to be entertained by them just as much as all of us! It’s an easy way to distract a nervous diver, or provide a new view for snorkelers.

Casey spends a lot of time teaching the wonders of scuba to new and experienced divers. He also has a knack for making learning enjoyable with his knowledge of the sport, gear, and diving in general. Recently he’s had great experience help Sail Fish Scuba bring the world of snorkeling to everyone. Bringing them into the world of swimming and snorkeling with the vast amount of life to see on our reef. He loves breaking the ice and allowing a new diver/snorkeler the opportunity to see the reef life in it’s natural habitat. Being an instructor has its perks! But he’s not just seen teaching. But he enjoys mating our boat, Deeper, as well. It’s a quiet opportunity to observe the beauty of the ocean top-side (and a nice way to off gas after a week of diving).
